I have had the pleasure of taking yoga classes with Prakriti for almost a year now. From the start, I’ve been very impressed with her knowledge of the poses and movement flows and – what’s most important – her knowledge of modifying them to make them accessible to people of different abilities. Her cuing is clear, her eye for what needs to be adjusted here and there is very keen, her demeanor is very gentle and supportive. Prakriti is very approachable and down-to-earth and is not beyond having a giggle with her students when it’s appropriate. Prakriti has gathered and continues to gather a lot of knowledge of good movement practice as she attends regular yoga workshops with renowned teachers. Prakriti’s understanding of Yoga is not merely at the level of physical fitness, postures or movements. It includes deep psy chological and philosophical benefits in the practice of yoga at mind and body level respectively. She retains the Gurukulam pedagogy of differential teaching due to which each student will get a feeling of personal attention and care. Her understanding of body dynamics allows her to combine and use various yoga methods and styles very wisely. The interest she has developed in knowing body anatomy helps her address specific aliment issues of learners. Above all, her greatest strength is her communication skills which allows her to articulate the instructions for the learners. I am a classical dance performer, practicing the Mohiniyattam style of dance and my personal experience with her has been over the last 10months. In these months, she has helped me rid of a chronic lower back ailment I was suffering for the past three years where even medicine failed. It is been three months since I have felt any pain. The understanding of my body Ihave gained in the last 10 months has greatly lent insight and improvements to my dance movements as well.

I had relocated to Chennai and amongst the many things I wanted was to find a yoga class. However, having learnt yoga before and also the body being the main instrument for my pursuit of classical dance, I was looking for someone who understood the body well. When I attended Prakriti’s class, the one thing I was simply amazed by is her understanding of the intricacies of the body. The way each class is structured is a reflection of the thought put in and there is a flow to the sequence. The understanding of body weight down to using your big toe or little toe to balance is something that fascinated me as just following that little detail made a big difference. Her sensitivity to injuries and the innovative options to do an aasanaa were also unique making it possible to place my trust in Prakriti completely while also increasing my faith in being able to progress in my own practise. Her technical prowess and precision makes it a complete and fulfilling experience! I looked forward to each class eagerly!

I had the opportunity of learning yoga from Prakriti at the Y Grace yoga centre in Chennai. I trained for a period of over 6 months with her. Her training has been immensely useful. During this training period, I had not only learnt several Vinyasas but also learnt the correct postures and methodology of practising these Vinyasas. Her training has helped me with several health benefits including improving my flexibility and solving my chronic back pain. Her unique quality is the fact that she takes personal interest in training every student who attends her sessions. She makes sure that she trains people based on their individual strengths and weaknesses. She is not just a good guru but a very good friend to her students as well. I have been practising yoga for a decade in different countries and I have spent a year attending yoga classes taken by Prakriti. I have found her to be very knowledgeable with strong attention to alignment and able to develop people with differing abilities in the same class. Yoga has been a part of my life for only about two years. I’ve practiced with a couple of teachers in the city and abroad. Prakriti truly stands out as one of my favourites. Right from my first class with her there was a sense of peace and calm. Her style instils confidence and provides a warm, welcoming environment. I personally looked forward to the days she would take class. She’s capable of making every student in the group feel like they’re having a one on one. Prakriti made her classes accessible for all levels of practice while maintaining the gentle challenges necessary for progress.Calming and clear instructions made sure we progressed from one asana to the next, maintaining balance and good posture( it helped a lot that she would walk around correcting us and help us go deeper into the asana) in complete harmony with our mind, breathe and body. There was a definite improvement in my strength and flexibility and since I enjoyed her class as much I always walked out with a calm happy mind.

I had the opportunity to be Prakriti’s student in Yoga, for the past 3.5 years. The classes have been extremely beneficial. I have found Prakriti very meticulous in her instruction and approach, her command on yoga is high and her ability to impart that knowledge to a diverse group of students is commendable. She is a very sincere teacher and has always been student focused. While conducting yoga sessions she has paid particular attention to the needs and ailments of individual students and their special requirements. I am a national athlete and needed specific yoga exercises for my legs and back. Prakriti has taken great care in instructing me with those exercises and this has greatly increased my overall physical and mental fitness. I am happy to inform you that during this time I won the bronze medal at the 2013 Srilankan Masters international athletic competition in triple jump. She is an asset to any Yoga institute and I whole heartedly recommend her. She will be helpful to the institute not just as a Yoga Instructor but also as a wonderful human being.
